The Public Communications Unit (PCU) was created in July 2002.

The PCU Mission Statement:

  • To prepare and disseminate in a timely manner, current, complete and accurate information about Government activities and thinking on all political, social and economic matters
  • To organize and assemble all such material from Government Ministries and other institutions at all levels, and attempt to answer all queries that may arise in order to present a complete and accurate picture to the world.

The PCU aims:

  • To effectively tell the story of the Federal Government, so as to impact on Nigerians, and indeed a global audience
  • To equip the Presidency with a structure and mechanism for systematic generation and dissemination of data to satisfy a big demand
  • To enable the Presidency to monitor, research, collate and communicate promptly and regularly, information on and about Nigeria
  • To meet the communications and information needs of the Government and the people, so as to ensure a better life for all
  • To provide leadership in Government communication and to ensure that the public is informed of Government’s implementation of its mandate.

The PCU objectives:

  • To be a readily accessible information warehouse
  • To monitor and collate relevant Government data
  • To be an interactive interface with the world media
  • To be a resource centre for the media and other networks
  • To provide consistent perception of Government policies, direction and positions
  • To project an accurate image of Nigeria.

The PRCU maintains an interactive website that receives, processes, edits and disseminates information pertaining to the Government of the Federation and related institutions.
