FG satisfied with the pace of work on Zungeru Power Plant Jul 23, 2010, 19:15
| | The Vice President, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has disclosed that the execution of work for the smooth take off of the Zungeru hydro power plant will be fully financed through appropriation as concessionary loans were yet to be sourced for the project.
He made this disclosure on Friday July 23, in Abuja, while chairing a meeting of the co-ordinating ministries, consultants, contractors and stake holders handling the Mambilla, Zungeru and Gurara phase two hydro power projects at the State House. The meeting was to address issues bordering on the provision of adequate hydro power supply in the country.
The Vice President was elated with the pace of progress of the Zungeru power plant and expressed confidence in the process currently employed by the co-ordinating consultants. He posited that the need to fast track the take off of the Zungeru hydro power project need not be over emphasized. He summarized them as, conclusion of all pending negotiations between the consultants and the ministry as well as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) issues to be expedited.
Others include the quick selection of contractors and consultants and their immediate appointment to meet the target period. Speaking further on the same vein he enjoined the complete team of coordinating consultants to ensure that negotiations are concluded by August and the contract to commence in earnest. He said that “when the job commences in September and the site is taken over then we are sure to work within time limits”.
Earlier, the Ministries of Power and Water Resources had made submissions on the progress of work on all the three sites of Mambilla, Zungeru and Gurara Phase II, stating that all outstanding payments to consultants handling the Mambilla project has been settled and that a helicopter is being provided to facilitate the completion of the ortho-photo mapping within 3 weeks, all concerned ministries to be partners and be fully integrated in the project and a subcontractor to be appointed to complete the geotechnical investigation on the site.
Finally further reports were provided on Gurara phase one projects in respect of the route surveys.
