President Jonathan attends Republic of Benin’s 50th independence anniversary

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is back to Abuja after attending the 50th independence anniversary celebrations of Nigeria’s close neighbour, the Republic of Benin, held in its capital, Porto Novo, on Sunday, August 1, 2010.

President Jonathan attended the event at the special invitation of President Boni Yayi of Benin.

President Jonathan graced the occasion along with his counterparts from Senegal, Gabon, Cote d’Ivoire, Chad, Togo , Equatorial Guinea , Burkina Faso and Congo-Brazzaville.

High level delegations from France, Kuwait and Morocco also attended the celebrations.

Nigeria and the Republic of Benin are among several African countries that are celebrating the golden anniversary of their independence this year.

President Jonathan returned to the country immediately after the Sunday event.
