Aug 24, 2010, 16:58

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said that his Administration was fully committed to ensuring better relations with labour unions in the country and will put the report of the national committee of experts on wage fixing to good use as a roadmap for resolving salary-related issues.

Receiving the report of the committee at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday August 24, President Jonathan said that it will provide a proper basis for future wage negotiations with labour unions in the public sector.

The President thanked members of the committee headed by Prof. Vremudia Diejomaoh for the great service they had rendered to the nation while carrying out their assignment in the past seven months.

Issues addressed by the committee of experts on parameters for wage-fixing in the federal public service include parameters for wage determination, ability to pay, the problem of pay relativity as well as mechanisms for pay determination that will ensure periodic and regular pay adjustment.

The committee which was inaugurated on January 7, this year, also addressed the issue of frequent industrial disputes in the public service and recommend measures to ensure greater industrial peace and tranquility.
