ECOWAS leaders meet on security

The leaders of the ECOWAS region on 11 November called for a more harmonious relations among member states.

President Olesugun Obasanjo and six other leaders from the region made the call in Accra, Ghana after reviewing the political and security situation in West Africa, with particular reference to the situation in Cote d’Ivoire.

The leaders noted that the harmonious relations would be of beneficial to the socio-political and economic development of the sub region.

They also pledged to promote good neighbourliness and promote peace and stability among member states.

On the Ivorien crisis, President Lauren Gbagbo and the Prime Minister pledged to work together in ensuring the successful implementation of the programme drawn up by the government of national reconciliation.
