37 world leaders for NEPAD Summit, presidential inauguration

37 world leaders are expected to attend the 29 May inauguration of President Olusegun Obasanjo for a second term in office.

According to Eric Teniola, the Deputy Director (Media), Office of the Secretary to the Government, the 37 leaders will also attend the Seventh Summit of the Implementation Committee of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) on May 28.

Also on May 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, there will be a pre-inauguration cultural and musical festival, and the delivery of a special lecture by Ghanaian President, John Kuffour. South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki is also expected to attend the cultural and musical festival.

Commenting on the Summit, the Senior Special Assistant to President Obasanjo on NEPAD, Chinyere Asika, has announced that NEPAD plans to spend about $54billion annually, in the next 10 years, to combat poverty and underdevelopment in the continent.
