President Yar’adua orders investigation into ‘money-related’ incidents in New Delhi, Abuja
Jun 13, 2007, 11:03

President Umar Yar’adua has directed the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs to effect the immediate recall of Nigeria’s Defence Adviser in India, Navy Captain G. A. Ojedokun, who was recently arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi carrying large sums of foreign currency.

He also directed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, to undertake a thorough investigation into the reported apprehension of a police officer with millions of Naira at Police Headquarters, Abuja.

Both directives were issued June 12 in Abuja in continuance of Mr. President’s declared commitment to ensuring greater probity and transparency in the management of public funds.

Detailed reports on both incidents are to be forwarded to the President at the conclusion of the investigation for further action.
