Presidency submits Ministerial list to Senate
Jul 5, 2007, 15:49

A formal list of ministerial nominees has been forwarded by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to the Senate for ratification.

Senate President, Senator David Mark received the list on July 4 from the Presidential Liaison Officer to the National Assembly, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

All the states in the federation had nominees with the exception of Benue state whose candidate is expected.

The names on the list were announced on the floor of the Senate on July 5, thereby setting the stage for the screening and confirmation hearing coming up from July 10.

It would be recalled that the tradition in the Senate for screening ministerial nominees has been to first seek the opinion of the three Senators representing the state the nominee hails from on the appointment. If two of the Senators are opposed to the nomination, the appointment of the would-be minister may run into a hitch.
