Federal Executive Council

FEC now to meet fortnightly
Aug 8, 2007, 15:37

The Federal Executive Council is to meet fortnightly under the current dispensation.

According to a release signed by the SA to the President (Communications) Olusegun Adeniyi on August 8, in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, has already conveyed this decision by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to council members.

He noted that the decision was informed by the need for members to have Council memos and all the accompanying documents a week ahead of the meeting. This will enable them to read, digest and if need be, seek further clarifications from initiators of the memo(s) before discussion of the issues by the full Council.

He said that the present situation, in which ministers come to Council on Wednesday to discuss memos they may be seeing for the first time, is unacceptable to the President.

“It is in the light of this that the President has decided that under his Administration, except in cases of emergency, the Federal Executive Council meeting will hold every fortnight” he stated.
