FG spends N250b on Waste Management

In its avowed commitment to a clean, safe and healthy environment nationwide, the Federal Government has disbursed N250 billion for effective solid waste management.

Making the disclosure on October 18, at an audience she granted the Governor of Ogun State Gbenga Daniel in Abuja, the Minister of Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Hajia Halima Tayo Alao noted that her ministry has initiated some projects on solid waste management in Ogun State.

She stated that effective measures have also been taken to control flood in the state, which is a source of concern for the state, the ministry and the federal government.

The Minister who noted that some flooding incidences have been attributed to improper disposal of waste that blocks the drainages, called for enlightenment on clean environment and effective waste disposal as a panacea to environmental disasters.

Governor Gbenga Daniel in his response, expressed satisfaction over the completion of the first phase of the waste management initiative in his state and assured of his cooperation.

He stated that over 200 towns and cities in the state are affected by flood for which the state needs over N6b for rehabilitation. He also called for the intervention of the federal government in the issues of environmental challenges in the state especially in the provision of housing.
