FEC approves transitional board for PHCN
May 28, 2008, 16:41

The Federal Executive Council has approved the setting up of a Transitional Board of Directors for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The transitional board which has the Minister of state for Power Mrs Fatima Ibrahim as chairman has a three year tenure.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the council meeting at the council chambers on Wednesday May 28, the Minister of Information and Communications, Mr John Odey said FEC considered that the recent assessment of the unbundled companies from the former National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) revealed the absence of “a strong coordinating office that can effectively that can oversee the activities of these interrelated companies”.

“In view of the above-observed challenge the president, vice president and minister of state for energy and power held a meeting and saw the need for the establishment of a strong coordinating office at the PHCN headquarters”, the Minister said.

Other members of the Transitional Board of the PHCN include the
• Director General of Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE),
• Representative of Federal Ministry of Finance
• Representative of Federal Ministry of Justice, and
• Managing Director Nigerian Gas Company (NGC).
