Jun 19, 2008, 21:10

Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Turai Umar Yar’adua has called on Nigerians to pray for more rainfall, bumper harvest and an end to global food crisis. She said women and children are at the receiving end in all forms of crises.

The First lady made the call when she received the wife of Anambra State Governor in her office in Abuja on Thursday June 19.

Villages in Nigeria will soon be equipped with tricycle ambulances to ease maternal problems in the nation, by the end of August, declared Hajia Turai. while ambulances will be obtained through her project ‘Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation’ WAYEF. All necessary medical facilities required in ordinary ambulance are installed in the tricycle ambulance, she stated.

Hajia Turai commended the Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi for giving women an ample space in his cabinet.

The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Margaret Peter Obi had earlier appealed to the First Lady to intervene in some needs bedeviling Anambra women; provision of ambulance to rural women, establishment of cottage industries to young women especially widows. She further requested Mrs. Yar’adua to site the South East Zonal Center for Cancer Management in Anambra State.
