FG assures of favourable environment for investment
Aug 15, 2008, 16:01

The Federal Government is committed to the creation of a favourable environment to attract foreign investments and also encourage private sector participation in all areas of development.

Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, stated this in Abuja on August 14, while receiving a team of investors from The Netherlands Led by Nigeria's Ambassador to The Netherlands, Her Excellency Dr (Mrs.) Nimota N. Akanbi, in company of The Netherlands' Ambassador to Nigeria, Aire C.A. van der Wiel.

He traced the cordial relationship between the two countries to over hundred years and assured of the safety of the Netherlands' investments in Nigeria. He encouraged the team to use the opportunity of their visit to explore all areas of possible cooperation, particularly the non-oil sector.

The vice president noted that unemployment is the bane of development and urged the private sector to partner with the government in creating employment, since government alone cannot achieve much in this direction.

In his comments, the Minister of National Planning, Senator Sanusi Daggash disclosed that an economic blue print that will actualise Nigeria's vision of being among the twenty largest economies in the world by the year 2020 is on the way.

Dr. Akanbi in her comment stated that the visit was in compliance with the stand and determination of the present administration towards actualising its Seven-Point agenda adding that the investors were carefully selected, based on their track records in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and America and gave assurance of their ability to deliver projects on scheduled.

She disclosed that the team of investors has entered into partnership agreements with their Nigerian counterparts and institutions in the last few days and commended various individuals and governmental bodies that have made the economic mission successful.

She expressed her conviction that Nigeria is on the path of recovery and economic development and that with more determination, resolve and sense of purpose, our vision of transforming Nigeria into the club of twenty top economies would be realized.

The team comprised of chief executives and managing directors of reputable Dutch companies, seeking to invest in Nigeria in the areas of power and energy, transportation, construction, ICT and agro- allied industries.
