Nigeria observes World AIDS Day

Nigeria joined the rest of the world in observing the 20th edition of the International Day Against HIV/AIDS on Monday December 01 2008.

At the occasion, the Federal Government pledged to look into the plight of people living with HIV/AIDS especially in the areas of nutrition and medication.

Vice President Goodluck Jonathan who gave the assurance while addressing the World AIDS Day rally at the Eagle Square Abuja promised to present their plight to the next National Economic Council meeting.

Vice President Jonathan said some of the problems being highlighted by Persons Living with HIV/AIDS in a peaceful demonstration at the venue can only be addressed at the states and local government levels.

Top government officials, representatives of donor agencies and civil society groups attended the rally.
