Adopt responsive strategies to global insecurity, President charges Air Force Apr 23, 2009, 17:31
| | President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has charged the Nigeria Air Force to adopt strategies that will provide Nigeria’s response to global insecurity.
Declaring open the 2009 Annual Air Force Conference in Ada, Osun State on Thursday April 23, President Yar’Adua, whose message was delivered by Minister of State for Defence, Mr Ademola Seriki, emphasised that periodic evaluation of the Force’s constitutional responsibility was of great necessity if it must remain effective in peace operations.
“It is my sincere hope that your deliberations will terminate in a definitive roadmap that will enable the service to sufficiently reinvent and transform itself to be able to meaningfully contribute to our national development”, the President said.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Oluseyin Petirin observed that the Air Force lost its efficiency when the military ventured into politics thereby losing focus in the training of pilots and huge setbacks in most of its aircrafts.
He said that with the return of democracy, in 1999, there have been some improvements and pledged that more crafts in the force will be rehabilitated.
Out of the N20b special grant for the resuscitation of the Air Force by the past administration, N1ob has so far been released for rehabilitation work
The conference is an annual event that affords officers of the Nigerian Air Force an opportunity to brainstorm on new strategies to move the force forward.
This year’s conference also marks the 45 year anniversary of the Force since it was established in1964.
