FG appoints technical board to manage NITEL/M-TEL

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on Wednesday June 3 approved the constitution of a technical Board of management for Nigeria Telecommunication (NITEL) /MTEL.

The development followed Monday’s revocation of the sale of 51 per cent of the shares of NITEL/MTEL to Transcorp Plc.

Minister of State for Information and Communication announced the revocation at the end of the meeting of the National Council on Privatization.

The board is to be chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Communications, Alkali Mohammed.

Other members are:
• Dr. Christopher Anyanwu, Director General, BPE
• Dr Steve Oronsaye, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance
• Acting MD, NITEL (to be appointed)
• Ibrahim Kashim, Director, Information and Communication, BPE
• Mr. Sam Worlu, Senior Special Assistant, Economic Matters to the Vice President, and
• Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT Ltd

The Technical Board ,according to a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President (Media and Publicity) Mr Ima Niboro, will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the companies pending the completion of the on-going core investor sale process.
