FEC ratifies contracts for NIPP power projects Jun 12, 2009, 11:22
| | In furtherance of the Federal Government’s effort towards improving the power supply situation across the country, the Federal Executive Council has ratified for execution, contracts for National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) valued at about N348 billion approved by president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua based on the recommendations of the Presidential Council on the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP).
Briefing the media on the outcome of the extra-ordinary meeting convened by the president on power projects on Thursday, June 11 in Abuja, Information minister, Professor Dora Akunyili in company of the minister of power, Lanre Babalola disclosed that the ratifications which were made of nine different power contracts aimed at boosting power generation, distribution and transmission included N21.43 billion, 14 million euro and $1.97 billion contracts respectively.
Specifically, the ratified contracts include the manufacture and supply of 20 numerical relay testing equipment complete with accessories and software, plus factory acceptance test and training of two Transmission Company of Nigeria Engineer in the sum of N46, 425,702.19k plus Euro 994,660 at prevailing exchange rate during the time of payment.
Government efforts according to her were geared towards achieving the President Umaru Yar’Adua’s target of 6,000 mega watts of electricity by the end of 2009 and 10,000 mw by 2011.
