| | The Federal Government has inaugurated a committee on minimum wage for the country.
The committee is made up of representatives of Government, Labor, and employers.
Inaugurating the committee on Tuesday July 14 in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed said the committee was a response to the need to address the genuine and realistic agitation of Nigerian workers for a decent, living wage.
The committee is expected to consult with all stakeholders on the issue of national minimum wage.
The SGF said: “They should examine the issue of national minimum wage in the context of the national economy and our ability to give respect and pride to every worker in this country. We are expecting a proposal for a realistic national minimum wage will come to government, realistic in the affordability and realistic in the liability of something in your pocket as a worker”.
The chairman of the committee and former chief justice of Nigeria, Mr Justice Alpha Belgore promised to accomplish the task in record time.
“I am very happy indeed that trade unions are ready to participate in this arrangement and I expect cooperation from the unions”, the chairman said.
