FG inaugurates committee to review workers’ wages Jan 8, 2010, 10:53
| | In a move to end industrial disputes and ensure motivation of the workforce, the Federal Government has set up a committee to review the parameters for wage determination in the Federal Civil Service.
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan who inaugurated the National Committee of Experts to Review and Fix Parameters for Determining and Adjusting Remuneration in the Federal Civil Service on Thursday January 7 in Abuja charged it to develop a wage policy that will include a mechanism for periodic adjustment of salaries and wages that will eliminate ad hoc approach and facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the public service.
The Vice President restated government's positive disposition towards improvement in staff compensation as well as to save jobs of workers.
The 12-member Committee which has six months to submit its report was given the following terms of reference:
• Develop a wage policy for the Federal Civil Service that will provide a mechanism for periodic adjustment of salaries and wages that will eliminate ad hoc approach and facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the public service;
• determine the proportion of revenue that will be allocated for personal emoluments based on best practices among comparable emerging economies of the world;
• identify and propose parameters for determining pay relativities among various categories of personnel and occupational groups in the Federal Civil Service;
• critically examine the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries, Allowances, etc) Amendment Act 2008 and its impact on pay relativities in the Federal Civil Service; and
• advise on any other matter related to the assignment.

Representative of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation;
Representative of the Chairman, Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission;
Chief R. Egbule, Chairman, National Salaries and Wages Commission;
Prof. Sylvester Monye, Secretary, National Planning Commission;
Mrs. O. Olanrewaju, Director (TUSIR), Federal Ministry of Labour and
Chike Ogbechie, Director, Compensation NSIWC.
