Feb 10, 2010, 18:35

The Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has given assurance of improved relations between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Kuwait.

He stated this on Wednesday February 10, when he received a Special Envoy from the Government of Kuwait, Mohammad Abdulhassan, who brought a special message for him from the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, in State House, Abuja.

Acting President Jonathan read through the message and thanked the Government of Kuwait for its concern and prayers for President Yar’Adua’s speedy recovery. “We are all praying for President Yar’Adua’s speedy recovery,” he said.

Dr. Jonathan told the Kuwaiti envoy that Nigeria and Kuwait enjoy warm relations. He said Foreign Affairs Minister, Ojo Maduekwe, who was present at the meeting, will follow up on all the issues concerning bilateral relations between both countries.

Abdulhassan extended warm congratulations to Acting President Jonathan on behalf of his Emir, saying the Kuwaiti Government was pleased at the National Assembly’s resolution empowering him as Acting President of Nigeria. “This is a step towards maintaining stability for the great nation of Nigeria” he said

He expressed hope that the options for improved relations between his country and Nigeria will be broadened in the days ahead.
