Nigeria will lead by example – Dr Jonathan
Feb 22, 2010, 15:25

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has assured that Nigeria is committed to leading by example in the West African Sub-region and continent of Africa.

He stated this today when he received in audience the immediate past President for Ghana , John Kuffour, who paid him a courtesy visit in State House, Abuja .

Dr. Jonathan assured that Nigeria will continue to do what is right despite daunting national challenges, while maintaining its leadership role in sub-Saharan Africa. He noted that this year is quite significant for many African countries which are marking the golden jubilee anniversary as independent nations alongside Nigeria. “As a nation, we will do our best to do what is right at all times,” Jonathan stated.

The Acting President appreciated Kuffour for setting the pace in the history of electoral revolution in Africa by presiding over free and fair election in Ghana and assured that Nigeria is poised to do better than Ghana come 2011.

Kuffour, who was in Nigeria for the THISDAY Awards to commemorate Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary, congratulated Dr. Jonathan on his assumption of office, saying he came to pay respects and show solidarity with Nigeria’s Acting President.

“Your knack for diplomacy and skill has helped to stabilize the situation in Nigeria. We want you to know that we wish you well. Nigeria is the anchor nation in West Africa and sub-Saharan Africa and your stability is ours as well. We are praying for your success and I am personally confident that you will succeed,” Kuffour stated.
