Acting President congratulates the People of Togo
Mar 10, 2010, 17:47

The Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on behalf of the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, congratulates the Togolese people on the successful conduct of the Presidential election in Togo on 4th March, 2010, and the subsequent declaration of President Faure Gnassingbe as President Elect.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr Ima Niboro, on Wednesday March 10, Dr. Jonathan also congratulates the newly elected President, and states that the outcome of the election has further demonstrated the resolve of the Togolese People to ensure that democracy is sustained in the country. He calls on the President-Elect to extend a hand of fellowship to all those who contested with him and ensure that the interest of the Togolese People is kept in view at all times.

He advises those dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to follow the path of constitutionalism and due process, as laid down by the relevant laws of Togo, and urges the Togolese people to remain calm at this period.
