President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has promised to soon convene a meeting with all governors to tackle some of the practices that have led to empty treasuries in some states of the Federation.
President Yar’Adua made this commitment when he received a delegation from Niger State, led by Governor Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu, at State House, June 14.
His words: “We will soon convene a meeting with all governors to decide where we are going as a country, because some of the practices that have led you to finding an empty treasury must be tackled”.
Calling on all those in leadership positions to take responsibility for good governance in the country, President Yar’adua stressed that the “collective goal of all governments in the country must be to ensure the speedy development of the country”.
“We must improve the quality of life of all Nigerians, so we can all have a meaningful existence. There will be no cause for friction between the Federal Government and the states. It has to be cooperation, partnership and consultation for the good of Nigerians”, he concluded.
In a separate meeting with a delegation from Cross River State, led by Governor Liyel Imoke, President Yar’adua pledged to “continue the culture of close collaboration, cooperation and partnership” with the State and all Nigerians.
