First Lady receives spouses of African envoys to Nigeria

The First Lady, Mrs Turai Umaru Yar’Adua has received spouses of African ambassadors serving in Nigeria.

Addressing them, Mrs Turai Yar’Adua called on African women to dedicate themselves to the prevention of conflicts and in the consolidation of peace. Africa, she lamented, has being experiencing conflicts arising from ethnic, religious or national differences which negatively affect socio-economic development.

She observed that although African women are the victims of armed conflict, yet it is the woman who has the capacity to restore peace to society beginning with the home front.

Mrs Turai declared that in her capacity as incumbent chairperson of African First
Ladies Peace Mission, she will soon embark on a peace mission to warring countries of Africa.

She invited the wives of the African Ambassadors to Nigeria to join hands with her in propagating the message of peace.

The leader of the delegation, Mrs. Faustina Kumi, wife of the Ghanaian Ambassador to Nigeria, disclosed that the Association of the Wives of African Ambassadors serving in Nigeria is undertaking many charitable aprojects in the country to help alleviate poverty.

Mrs.Kumi said the association has awarded scholarship to a school girl and is complementing some orphanages in the FCT.

Mrs.Faustina Kumi expressed the association’s desire to partner with the pet project of the First Lady ‘Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation’ (WAYEF) to help reach out to those in need.
