The people of Gambia have expressed their desire to continue to request for support and assistance from Nigeria in areas of Health, Education, Legal and Capacity Building.

This was contained in a message delivered by a Special Envoy of President Yahya Jammeh of the Republic of Gambia.

The Special Envoy, Dr. Omar A. Turay, who is the Under-Secretary in the Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the message to the Nigeria President through Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed (CFR) when he paid a courtesy call on the SGF in Abuja on Friday October 31.

Dr. Turay conveyed the appreciation of the President and people of Gambia to Nigeria for the various assistance.

He also expressed the gratitude of the people of Gambia who have benefited immensely from various contributions of resident Nigerian professionals.

Responding, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed (CFR) extended the warm welcome of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua and expressed his regret for his inability to receive the envoy in person due to exigencies of pressing state matters.

He said President Yar’Adua appreciated the high regard President Jammeh has for Nigeria as expressed in his consideration to send a powerful delegation.

The SGF, while noting how important and strategic Gambia is to Nigeria not only as a fellow ECOWAS country but as a country that share common background, assured the delegation of Nigeria’s continue support.
