President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua is dissatisfied with the quality and efficiency of service delivery in the public service and has reminded civil servants of the core values of humility and honesty.
President Yar’Adua who expressed displeasure over the dwindling nature of the civil service reforms lamented that the Nigerian public service is still far from meeting the basic expectations of the political leadership in the institutionalization of a culture of efficient and reliable service delivery
This was contained in a message to the 2009 Dinner and Award Night on Tuesday June 23, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed.
The Dinner and Award Night marked the end of the one-week long celebration of the Public Service Week in Nigeria.
According to President Yar’Adua, the celebration was meant to acknowledge the contributions of the service to national development.
In his address, the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Steven Oronsaye said the focus of the service will be to improve the capacity of the Federal Civil Service to support the political leadership.
“As members of the top echelon of the service, we share a collective responsibility which must promote excellence and good governance in service delivery”, he said.
The awards were in four categories – the Distinguished Public Service Career Award, for Permanent Secretaries, Civil Service President’s Award, Certificate of Merit and Letter of Commendation.
