President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has welcomed a proposal by the Islamic Development Bank, IDB, to host an investor conference in Nigeria, to showcase the investment opportunities in the country.
President Yar’Adua told the visiting Vice President, Operations, of the Bank, Mr. Birama Boubacar Sidibe, at State House on October 2, 2009 that the conference is very relevant, and the IDB and investors will find Nigerians to be “enthusiastic and firm partners to do business with”.
He said IDB has played “a very critical role in fostering development and promoting peace and prosperity in many nations”, adding that “Nigeria is glad of the opportunity for investments which the partnership with the bank will provide”.
President Yar’Adua congratulated Kaduna State for concluding and signing a funding agreement for science secondary education in the state, and encouraged other states in the country to take advantage of similar available opportunities.
Earlier, Mr. Birama Boubacar Sidibe, IDB Vice President, Operations, had said the Bank had held discussions with the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Dr. Tanimu Yakubu, and specific areas of economic and social cooperation were being considered.
He briefed President Yar’Adua about the plans to hold an investor conference in Nigeria, with strong participation from the Gulf States, whose major areas of investment interest included agriculture, infrastructure and social housing.
